Today in the Word

I am running behind posting this today but I am finally getting a chance to sit down. In light of what is going on not far from my home (the Minister in Gainesville FL threatening to burn Korans) I thought this would be a good time to talk about Love.

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:7,8

As Christians we are instructed by God to show the love of Christ through our actions and words. Threatening to burn a religious book (regardless of what religion it is) is not showing the love of Christ. It is showing hate and were hate resides love cannot. I am a Christian, I love Jesus and God is my Lord and Heavenly Father. I am ashamed and deeply saddened that someone who is supposed to be called of God would threaten to do such a thing, and do it in the name of Christianity.
On the same subject, sort of, I will say that I am adamantly against putting a Mosque at Ground Zero. I feel it is an affront and insult to those whose lives were taken there.
It is not easy to love your friends and even harder to love your enemies but that is what we are supposed to do. God will take care of those who go against him, that is not our concern or our battle. We are to love one another and to show the love of Christ-period.

Today in the Word

Good Morning everyone. Are we ready to jump into the Word today? Alright lets get to it!

Mark 11:22,23

And Jesus answering saith unto them. Have faith in God.
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Are you speaking to your mountain? My mountain has been sitting in the garage in a state of not working for 6 months now-our good Maytag fridge that needs to be repaired. Did I speak to it and have faith in God that he would replace it or make a way for it to get fixed? Um I hate to admit this but no I did not and have not. It broke on a weekend full of food and I decided we would go to RAC and purchase a dinky little fridge on the payment plan and pay 3 times what the fridge is worth. OK well I missed the mark on that one. I panicked. I am now confessing my shortcoming and speaking out that God will make a way for the Maytag to get repaired or replaced. Thank you Lord for your goodness.
How many times has something come up and instead of looking to God and speaking and standing in Faith we look to ourselves? I am guilty (lots of times). But I will tell you this comfort and peace come with leaning on God and putting our faith in Him to provide for us and take care of our mountains. What seems like an insurmountable obstacle to us is just a little bump in the road to God. Let Him make the way and don't try to figure out how He is going to do it-Gods pretty good at this.

Where did they get it?

Ok remember how I said earlier today that I would be expanding on the obeying the laws? Ok here we go folks.
As a School crossing guard employed by my city's sherriffs office, part of my job is to observe driver behavior. I can tell you right now I don't know how these motorists got thier liscense nor how they keep it. I have 2 signs facing in both directions in my SCHOOL ZONE that warns drivers they are entering a school zone where the speed limit is 15 MPH. Plus I am hard to miss in my dayglow yellow uniform. Yet 90% zip right threw the zone going 35+ MPH without even a care!!! They don't care that they might hit a child, animal or adult. Some act like it is their life mission to go as fast as they can on this residential street going upwards of 40+ MPH and even speeding up when they get to the school zone!!
What is wrong with motorists these days? Is where you are going so urgent that you can't slow down and observe the speed limit? If you think you are in a hurry now what are you going to think when you hit a child or a crossing guard while you are zipping threw the school zone? I have had drivers not even stop when I am holding up a sign that says STOP, thankfully "my kids" are good to listen to me and don't enter the crosswalk without my instructions to do so (most of the time, they are kids after all).
My other peave? Do drivers know what a crosswalk is for? it sure isn't for parking your car there while waiting in line at the car rider pick up lane. That crosswalk has to stay clear for the crossing guard to cross children (And adults we cross parents/siblings/aunts/uncles/grandparents too). If your vehicle is in the crosswalk at all we can't cross them.
Ok done venting just needed to get that off my chest. But please pay attention to the school zones and don't speed in these areas, someone's life might depend on you slowing down.

Today in the Word September 7,2010

I am enjoying this feature on my blog so much, I hope you are also. These first posted scriptures I have been using The Bible Promise Book that belonged to my Grandmother. It has catagories which I find helpful when I am searching for the scripture that is speaking to me each day. Today I went to the Obedience section, really there is a reason. My thoughts this morning as I was spending my hour at my post in between crossing "my kids" were all about how many people were not obeying the law by speeding (35+mph in a 15MPH school zone) by me in my school zone. I will post more about that later though lets get into the Word now.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

This is a scripture I remind myself of every time something goes not according to my plan. I just remind myself that my plans are laughable anyway when it comes to God's plan and what He has planned may not mesh with my "plans" but it will work towards the good. Guess what? It almost always does (when I don't interfere lol). We just need to remember to do what God asks of us and everything will pan out.

Today in the Word

Today's passage is from Isaiah 30:21

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Ever notice how loud the world we live in is? It is sometimes very hard to hear that still, small voice that is there to guide us. I believe that the devil plays a big role in noise pollution. He would love for us not hear the Holy Spirit speaking to us. He would delight in us missing opportunities to share God's love because we just couldn't hear the prompting in our Spirits to reach out to those around us.
Take a moment each day just to be quiet and still and listen. When you find yourself distracted it is a good time to examine if you are missing a message due to interference.

Today in the Word

Today I would like to introduce a new element to my blog. I am going to do a scripture a day. I don't know about you but I fall into the trap of getting so busy that I don't pick up my Bible nearly as often as I should. I think that by adding this scripture post everyday it will help to ensure that I get my daily time in God's word and maybe it will help you also.
I also will add a few of my own reflections on the scripture too.

Today's scripture is John 13:34,35
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another;as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Is it hard to love others as Christ loves us? You bet it is. I find myself just as guilty as anybody of not loving others in a Christ manner (or any other way lets be honest). We irritate each other, get on each others last nerve, hurt each other with our actions and words and yes even our inactions hurt those around us. But here is the good news God knows that we will stumble in our walk with Him and He picks us up, slaps a booboo strip on our owie and loves us anyway despite our shortcomings. He also gives us more oppurtunities to share His love with others. So next time you feel that ugly feeling boiling up inside just stop, count to ten and say " I love you" it really does feel better.
